The Packaging Act specifies requirements for the proportion of recycled material in disposable plastic drinks bottles.

Single-use plastic drinks bottles & packaging law

From 1 January 2025, new legal requirements for single-use plastic beverage bottles will come into force. It is therefore crucial to be aware of these requirements and implement them at an early stage.

In this article, you will find out what is changing and how you can best prepare for it.

What are disposable plastic drinks bottles?

Disposable plastic drinks bottles are packaging in bottle form with a filling volume of up to 3.0 litres. In addition to the bottle, this also includes the cap and the label.

These recyclate specifications will apply from 2025:

In order to further promote the circular economy, the Packaging Act stipulates mandatory recycled content for single-use plastic drinks bottles:

  • From 1 January 2025: At least 25% recycled plastics

  • From 1 January 2030: At least 30% recycled plastics

Why you should plan for 30 % recyclate now

As not only the bottle, but also the cap and label are included in the calculation of the recyclate content, we recommend that you already plan for a recyclate content of 30 %.

This ensures that you can easily fulfil the minimum legal requirements of 25 % from 2025 and are ideally positioned for the long term.
